AB  - Regionalni naučni centar Instituta za filozofiju i društvenu teoriju organizovao je u Novom Sadu od 18. do 21. aprila 2017. godine seriju događaja „Sećanje na Holokaust“, koja je sadržavala konferenciju „Holokaust i filozofija“, tribinu istoričara „Jevrejski identitet, antisemitizam i Holokaust“, jedan školski dan o Holokaustu „Lekcije za budućnost“ i simpozijum „Učiti o Holokaustu: utopija ili šansa – obrazovne prakse i pedagoški izazovi“. Čitavo događanje otvoreno je koncertom hora Jevrejske opštine Novi Sad – „Hašira“ i izložbom u novosadskoj Sinagogi pod nazivom „Pisanje stradanja: vodič kroz publikacije o Holokaustu“ autorke, Bilјane Albahari i dizajnerke Ornele Rezinović. Izložbu je pratio katalog  koji ima odlike samostalne knjige. 
Cilј izložbe bio je da se jednim savremenim, a temi odgovarajućim dizajnerskim rešenjem, na upečatlјiv način predstavi izbor preko stotinu knjiga koje su o Holokaustu štampane u Srbiji i da se na taj način ukaže na neke od najvažnijih elemenata i događaja vezanih za istoriju Holokausta u okupiranoj Srbiji. Autorke se nadaju da su na taj način uspele da usklade zahteve profesionalnog izraza i neophodnog pijeteta primerenog težini teme. Izložbeni plakati tematski i hronološki prate odigravanje Holokausta: počinju od spalјivanja knjiga i Kristalne noći u nacističkoj Nemačkoj, preko nastajanja sabirnih centara, stratišta i internacijskih i koncentracionih logora, do tragičnih učinaka nastojanja da se masovno uništi jevrejski narod. Kroz individualne sudbine, lične i porodične priče, istoriografske dokumente i arhivsku građu svedoči se o jednom od najvećih zločina u istoriji čovečanstva. Deo izložbe koji se odnosi na posleratni period govori o hvatanju počinitelјa ratnih zločina, pravednicima koji su pomagali jevrejskim porodicama da prežive racije i progone, tumačenju Holokausta, kao i o pedagoškom radu na izučavanje Holokausta.
Izložbenu postavku obišli su učenici tokom školskog dana „Lekcije za budućnost“, koji se odvijao u sklopu ove manifestacije. Tom prilikom se potvrdilo da se predstavlјeni plakati (u štampanoj i digitalnoj formi), koje je Institut poklonio Narodnoj biblioteci Srbije, zajedno sa knjigom-katalogom mogu koristiti kao pokretna izložba ili kao dopunski, edukativni i prateći materijal za različite seminare, interaktivne časove i radionice posvećene ovoj temi.

AB  - Članak se bavi istraživanjem političkih pogleda i vizije Srbije i Jugoslavije u idejama Ivana Đurića putem analize njegovih intervjua u domaćoj štampi tokom 1990. i 1991. godine, ali i analize sećanja Đurićevih bliskih saradnika, kao i dostupne arhivske građe i audio-vizuelnog materijala. Politička vizija Ivana Đurića reflektovala je njegov odnos prema pitanju daljeg društveno-političkog razvoja Srbije, odnosno Jugoslavije, na kraju hladnoratovske epohe. Stoga, putem analize njegovih političkih ideja, cilj je utvrditi kojim je pravcima, koncepcijama i modelima razvoja srpsko i jugoslovensko društvo, iz perspektive ovog angažovanog intelektualca, trebalo da streme. Rad se sastoji iz dva dela; u prvom delu prezentovani su istorijski kontekst na kraju hladnoratovske ere i pregled Đurićevog političkog i društvenog angažmana tokom 1990. i 1991. godine. U drugom delu predstavljeni su i obrazloženi konkretni primeri političkih, ekonomskih, socijalnih i kulturnih modela, koncepata i pravaca razvoja koje je zagovarao Ivan Đurić, a čijim je formulacijama nastojao da pruži adekvatne predloge i rešenja za prevladavanje opšte sistemske krize sa kojom se suočavala jugoslovenska zajednica.
AB  - The article deals with the research of the political views and vision of Serbia and Yugoslavia in the ideas of Ivan Đurić through the analysis of his interviews in the domestic press during 1990 and 1991, but also through the analysis of the memories of Đurić’s
close associates, as well as available archival material and audio-visual material. The
political vision of Ivan Đurić reflected his attitude towards the issue of further socio-political development of Serbia, as well as Yugoslavia, at the end of the Cold War
era. Therefore, through the analysis of Đurić’s political ideas, the goal is to determine
which directions, concepts and models of development Serbian and Yugoslav society
should have aspired to, from the perspective of this engaged intellectual. The paper
consists of two parts; in the first part, the historical context at the end of the Cold War
era and an overview of Đurić’s political and social involvement during 1990 and 1991
are presented. In the second part, concrete examples of political, economic, social
and cultural models, concepts and directions of development advocated by Ivan Đurić,
by means of which he tried to provide adequate proposals and solutions for overcoming the general systemic crisis faced by the Yugoslav community, are presented and
analyzed.

AB  - Jedna od relativno zapostavljenih tema u oblasti filozofije koja se bavi naukom je odnos između metoda prirodnih i društveno-humanističkih nauka. U radu ćemo identifikovati neke od zajedničkih elemenata u metodama savremenih prirodnih i društveno-humanističkih nauka, kao i zajedničke izazove koji iz njih proizlaze. Takođe ćemo razmotriti domete metoda u društveno-humanističkim naukama poredeći ih sa dometima u prirodnim naukama u specifičnim slučajevima. Na kraju ćemo predstaviti i neke od novijih formi potencijalno produktivne simbioze između ovih oblasti, zatim predstaviti postojeće i formulisati neke moguće nove aspekte filozofske analize te simbioze.
AB  - One of the relatively neglected topics in the field of philosophy that deals with science
is the relationship between the methods of natural and social sciences. In this paper,
we will identify some of the common elements in the methods of modern natural and
social sciences, as well as some of the common challenges that arise from them. We
will also consider the research ranges of methods in social sciences by comparing
them with the ranges in the natural sciences in specific cases. Finally, we will present
some of the newer forms of potentially productive symbiosis between these areas and
formulate some possible new aspects of the philosophical analysis of that
symbiosis.

Osmišljavanje crne Arijel iz filma Mala sirena među različitim belim publikama

AB  - Film Mala sirena (The Little Mermaid) i serije Prstenovi moći (Rings of Power) i Kuća zmaja (House of the Dragon) usmerili su pažnju javnosti u 2022. godini na trend povećanja reprezentacije ljudi različitih rasa među glavnim protagonistima serija i filmova koji se odvija tokom poslednje decenije. Zajedničko obema serijama i filmu je što su nove ekranizacije knjiga čije su prethodne ekranizacije doživele svetsku popularnost, kao i što su u sve tri nove ekranizacije među glavnim protagonistima i Crni glumci i glumice, za razliku od prethodnih. Nakon što je publika uočila izmene u glumačkim postavama, u javnoj sferi propagirali su se diskursi kojima se izmene pozdravljaju, ali i oni koji ih smatraju beskrupuloznim revizionizmom knjiga na kojima su bazirani i stoga ih treba bojkotovati. Kako bih doprinela javnoj raspravi na pomenutu temu, u ovom radu ću braniti tezu da diversifikovanu glumačku postavu u odnosu na prvobitne ekranizacije treba pozdraviti zbog toga što ima potencijal da doprinese smanjenju rasnih predrasuda među globalnom Belom publikom. Teza je najpre potkrepljena psihološkim empirijskim istraživanjima hipoteze kontakta i efekta proste izloženosti u kojima se redovno beleži umereno umanjenje predrasuda kod nekih ispitanika/ca u okolnostima koje se mogu uporediti sa gledanjem sadržaja od strane publike. U daljoj argumentaciji teze situirano je razumevanje koja Bela publika i na koji način može koristiti Crnu Arijel kao resurs za smanjenje svojih predrasuda. Zaključeno je da Bela publika kojoj je najdostupniji woke diskurs najpre koristi Crnu Arijel kao resurs za pozicioniranje u borbi za ravnopravnost, dok Bela publika kojoj taj diskurs nije najdostupniji može na više različitih načina iskoristiti Crnu Arijel kao resurs za ostvarivanje dobrih međurasnih kontakata van ekrana.
AB  - The film The Little Mermaid and the series Rings of Power and House of the Dragon
drew public attention in 2022 to the trend of increasing racial diversity among the
main protagonists in films and TV series over the past decade. What is common to
these productions is that they are all new adaptations of globally popular book-toscreen adaptations, and in all three, the main protagonists were Black compared to
the original adaptations featuring a White cast. After the audience noticed the changes in the cast, various discourses were promoted in the public sphere, some of which
welcomed the changes while others viewed them as unscrupulous revisionism that
should be boycotted.
In order to contribute to the public debate on this topic, this paper will utilise psychological theories and empirical evidence to support the thesis that a diverse cast can
contribute to a moderate reduction in average racial prejudices in a global White audience. According to the vicarious contact hypothesis, the White audience, based on
observing the positive intergroup contacts that Black Ariel makes with White characters, can conceptualize the possibilities of establishing better intergroup contacts in
their own lives. According to the mere exposure effect, it is beneficial for the White
audience to be simply exposed to Black actors, and according to the parasocial contact hypothesis, what’s beneficial is the intense, hours-long relationship with specific
actors or characters mediated through the screen. One obstacle to the claim that the
aformentioned studies support the thesis is that in registered average reductions in
prejudices, there are always participants who show a significantly greater shift than
the average, as well as those for whom there is no change. The thesis is futher supported with situated understanding of narrow White publics that can use the Black
Ariel to meaningfully shape their intergroup experiences beyond the screen.
I have considered two possible audiences. The first audience is immersed in the meanings of woke culture, which offers a certain number of discourses through which they
can position themselves regarding the Black Ariel. I argued that this audience will not
conceptualize a diverse cast as a resource to improve their intergroup contacts, only
to possition themselves in the discourse of structural rasicm. The second audience
will consume these revised contents merely as traditional cultural elements, even as
common-sense elements of natural reality, making it easier for Black Ariel to subsequently become an implicit or explicit symbolic resource for the audience to shape
better intergroup experiences beyond the screen.

Nakon što je publika uočila izmene u glumačkim postavama, u javnoj sferi propagirali su se diskursi kojima se izmene pozdravljaju, ali i oni koji ih smatraju beskrupuloznim revizionizmom knjiga na kojima su bazirani i stoga ih treba bojkotovati. Kako bih doprinela javnoj raspravi na pomenutu temu, u ovom radu ću braniti tezu da diversifikovanu glumačku postavu u odnosu na prvobitne ekranizacije treba pozdraviti zbog toga što ima potencijal da doprinese smanjenju rasnih predrasuda među globalnom Belom publikom. Teza je najpre potkrepljena psihološkim empirijskim istraživanjima hipoteze kontakta i efekta proste izloženosti u kojima se redovno beleži umereno umanjenje predrasuda kod nekih ispitanika/ca u okolnostima koje se mogu uporediti sa gledanjem sadržaja od strane publike. U daljoj argumentaciji teze situirano je razumevanje koja Bela publika i na koji način može koristiti Crnu Arijel kao resurs za smanjenje svojih predrasuda. Zaključeno je da Bela publika kojoj je najdostupniji woke diskurs najpre koristi Crnu Arijel kao resurs za pozicioniranje u borbi za ravnopravnost, dok Bela publika kojoj taj diskurs nije najdostupniji može na više različitih načina iskoristiti Crnu Arijel kao resurs za ostvarivanje dobrih međurasnih kontakata van ekrana., The film The Little Mermaid and the series Rings of Power and House of the Dragon
drew public attention in 2022 to the trend of increasing racial diversity among the
main protagonists in films and TV series over the past decade. What is common to
these productions is that they are all new adaptations of globally popular book-toscreen adaptations, and in all three, the main protagonists were Black compared to
the original adaptations featuring a White cast. After the audience noticed the changes in the cast, various discourses were promoted in the public sphere, some of which
welcomed the changes while others viewed them as unscrupulous revisionism that
should be boycotted.
In order to contribute to the public debate on this topic, this paper will utilise psychological theories and empirical evidence to support the thesis that a diverse cast can
contribute to a moderate reduction in average racial prejudices in a global White audience. According to the vicarious contact hypothesis, the White audience, based on
observing the positive intergroup contacts that Black Ariel makes with White characters, can conceptualize the possibilities of establishing better intergroup contacts in
their own lives. According to the mere exposure effect, it is beneficial for the White
audience to be simply exposed to Black actors, and according to the parasocial contact hypothesis, what’s beneficial is the intense, hours-long relationship with specific
actors or characters mediated through the screen. One obstacle to the claim that the

AB  - Кapitalistički tržišni sistem postindustrijskog društva postepeno obuhvata sve društvene odnose i podvodi celokupnu društvenu i kulturnu sferu pod svoju logiku akumulacije profita. Muzika takođe nastaje u okvirima ekonomske transformacije društva i predstavlja značajnu odrednicu identiteta i stila mladih. U ovoj studiji analiziramo nastanak i karakteristike trep folk muzike i „gaserskog“ stila među mladima u Srbiji i regionu. Kako bismo bolje razumeli osobenosti novonastalog muzičkog pravca i sa njim povezanog stila, prevashodno analiziramo značaj komodifikacije i kulturne industrije. Metodološki oslonjena na kvalitativnu analizu popularnih trep folk pesama, vizuelnog predstavljanja i slenga među najpopularnijim trep folk umetnicima, naša studija ukazuje na prisutnost globalne potrošačke kulture i političku apatiju među mladima na Balkanu, koja se odražava i na formiranje fluidnih identiteta bez vidljive autentičnosti i dubljeg značenja stila. Uprkos vidljivom odsustvu političkog otpora, zaključujemo da je klasna pripadnost važna odrednica novonastajućeg gaserskog stila i identiteta, što nije slučaj u okviru postsupkulturnih socioloških rasprava o supkulturama mladih.
AB  - The capitalist market system of post-industrial society gradually encompasses all social relations as it subsumes the entirety of social and cultural realms under its profit-making logic. Music is also deeply immersed in economic transformations of society and is a significant determinant of youth identities and style. In this study, we
analyze the origin and characteristics of trap folk music and gaser style among young
people in Serbia and the former Yugoslav region. In order to better understand the peculiarities of the new music genre and the style associated with it, we primarily analyze the importance of commodification and the cultural industry. Methodologically
based on a qualitative analysis of popular trap folk songs, visual representation and
slang among the most popular trap folk artists, our study points to the presence of
global consumer culture and political apathy among young people in the Balkans,
which also reflects the formation of fluid identities without visible authenticity and
deeper meaning. Despite the apparent absence of political resistance, we conclude
that class affiliation is an important determinant of the emerging gaser style and identity, which is not the case in post-subcultural sociological discussions about youth
subcultures.

AB  - U ovom članku razmatram no-budget muzički događaj Fesram (Festival sranje muzike) kao rezultat specifične forme kulturnog otpora društvenoj realnosti Srbije u protekloj deceniji. U uvodnom delu situiram Fesram u kontekst postojećih formi političkog otpora trenutno dominantnom političkom režimu u Srbiji. U drugom delu bavim se konceptom „loše muzike“ u istorijskom i kulturnom kontekstu Srbije, a posebno njenim akademskim razmatranjima i širim kulturnim i političkim implikacijama. U trećem delu raspravljam o Fesramu, njegovoj pozadini, načinu funkcionisanja i komunikaciji s publikom. Četvrti deo odnosi se na Fesramov obračun sa kulturnim stereotipima duboko ukorenjenim u srpskom društvu i odsustvom društvene kritike u zvaničnoj kulturnoj sferi. U zaključnom delu analiziram Fesram kao oblik „diskretnog aktivizma“ kojem se pribegava u okolnostima kada drugi oblici političkog otpora ne deluju.
AB  - The recent social developments in Serbia have established a new model of political
monopolies and an effective return to the one-party regime. Such absence of alternatives in the official political sphere provokes three basic forms of resistance: complete disillusionment with the political system and its major exponents which results
in political abstinence; mass protests in response to concrete instances of abuse of
political power and informal cultural initiatives which communicate political messages through the critique of the politicisation of the cultural sphere. In this paper, the
case study for this form of political resistance is the independently produced, low-budget music festival Fesram (Festival sranje muzike or Festival of Crap Music), active between 2012 and 2019, which at the same time challenged the political and cultural
systems in the country, and their respective core values.
The introductory part of the article situates Fesram in the context of the existing forms
of political resistance to the currently dominant political regime. The second part discusses the concept of „bad music“ in the Serbian cultural context, its history and academic treatment (or lack thereof), and its wider cultural and political implications.
The third part discusses Fesram, its background, and practices. The fourth part discusses Fesram’s manner of dealing with the cultural stereotypes prevailing throughout
Serbian history and the perceived absence of social criticism in Serbia’s official cultural
sphere. In the concluding part Fesram is observed as a form of „discreet activism“ resorted to in circumstances in which other forms of political resistance seem to fail.
Without permanent funding, venues or a fixed time-frame, Fesram changed its dates
and locations, spontaneously responding to current goings-on in Belgrade and Serbia,
and communicated with its audiences mainly through its Facebook page. Playing with
ideological opposites, confronting them in „outrageous“ combinations (musical, verbal and visual) Fesram invited its audiences to critically (or even un-critically) distance
themselves from the extreme poles of the political spectrum. Although it parodied
characters from the official political and cultural spheres and mocked the language of
tabloid media and the prevailing political jargon, Fesram did not align with any established political option, inviting its audience to think beyond the existing political system and question the society’s core values. Fesram was not didactic: it communicated
exclusively by annoying anyone who failed to receive its messages. And Fesram’s probably most important message is that Serbian society has nurtured false cultural values
and associated political doctrines for far too long and that it has only itself to blame
for the condition it has found itself in. This erratic music festival had not only shaped
an alternative form of activism, but a new type of „activist citizen“ who understands
the meaning of „crap“ (whether in music, culture, politics or society in general) and
the importance of this understanding. Fesram also showed that political resistance
goes hand in hand with resistance to the cultural values propelling political action.

S one strane zapadnog ogledala – konstrukcija drugosti Balkana i Istočne Evrope u horor filmovima prve decenije XXI veka

AB  - Od romana Brema Stokera o vampiru Drakuli pa do savremene pop kulture, Balkan i Istočna Evropa se sa svojim stanovnicima predstavljaju kao drugi u odnosu na Zapadnu Evropu. Cilj ovog rada je da pokaže kako savremeni „realistični“ horor filmovi (bez natprirodnih elemenata) nastavljaju tradiciju konstrukcije drugosti jedne regije kroz stvaranje specifične slike ne-zapadne Evrope kao „društvene divljine“ – raja za ilegalne prakse tj. kao svojevrsnog društveno numinoznog. To će biti postignuto putem dekonstrukcije strukture filmova odnosno: 1) same lokacije i načina njenog predstavljanja i 2) likova kroz koji se konstruiše distinkcija mi/drugi (pri čemu su drugi lokalno stanovništvo a mi posetioci sa zapada, najčešće žrtve) sa posebnim naglaskom na rodne uloge (stereotipno predstavljanje i konstrukciju muškosti/ženskosti lokalnih žena i muškaraca), s namerom da se otkrije šta je to što Balkan i Istočnu Evropu locira „s one strane društvenog ogledala“.
AB  - Ever since Bram Stoker published his famous novel about the vampire Dracula, the region of the Balkan peninsula and Eastern Europe and its population have been represented as “other” compared to the West. The main goal of this paper is to deconstruct
how contemporary “realistic” horror movies (with no supernatural elements) continued
the tradition of constructing the region’s otherness by creating the image of Balkans/
East Europe as a “social wilderness” – a paradise for illegal practices. The emphasis
will be on the deconstruction of visual and narrative elements that push Balkans/Eastern Europe to the other side of social reality such as 1) the images of the region and its
environment and, 2) the characteristics of the main, supporting, and episode characters through the glances of their origin (western tourists/victims vs eastern hosts/perpetrators) and gender ((western and eastern) male vs (western and eastern) female).

abstract = "Od romana Brema Stokera o vampiru Drakuli pa do savremene pop kulture, Balkan i Istočna Evropa se sa svojim stanovnicima predstavljaju kao drugi u odnosu na Zapadnu Evropu. Cilj ovog rada je da pokaže kako savremeni „realistični“ horor filmovi (bez natprirodnih elemenata) nastavljaju tradiciju konstrukcije drugosti jedne regije kroz stvaranje specifične slike ne-zapadne Evrope kao „društvene divljine“ – raja za ilegalne prakse tj. kao svojevrsnog društveno numinoznog. To će biti postignuto putem dekonstrukcije strukture filmova odnosno: 1) same lokacije i načina njenog predstavljanja i 2) likova kroz koji se konstruiše distinkcija mi/drugi (pri čemu su drugi lokalno stanovništvo a mi posetioci sa zapada, najčešće žrtve) sa posebnim naglaskom na rodne uloge (stereotipno predstavljanje i konstrukciju muškosti/ženskosti lokalnih žena i muškaraca), s namerom da se otkrije šta je to što Balkan i Istočnu Evropu locira „s one strane društvenog ogledala“., Ever since Bram Stoker published his famous novel about the vampire Dracula, the region of the Balkan peninsula and Eastern Europe and its population have been represented as “other” compared to the West. The main goal of this paper is to deconstruct
how contemporary “realistic” horror movies (with no supernatural elements) continued
the tradition of constructing the region’s otherness by creating the image of Balkans/
East Europe as a “social wilderness” – a paradise for illegal practices. The emphasis
will be on the deconstruction of visual and narrative elements that push Balkans/Eastern Europe to the other side of social reality such as 1) the images of the region and its
environment and, 2) the characteristics of the main, supporting, and episode characters through the glances of their origin (western tourists/victims vs eastern hosts/perpetrators) and gender ((western and eastern) male vs (western and eastern) female).",

AB  - The paper addresses the relationship between the concepts of becoming and imitation in
Deleuze and Guattari’s thought and how they assist us in understanding their conception
of stupidity. In the first step, the paper argues that, contrary to prevailing views in the
secondary literature, there is a positive relationship between mimesis and becoming in
Deleuze and Guattari’s philosophy. Instead of merely serving as a negative idea to be
denounced, it will be argued that the concept of imitation also plays a role in Deleuze and
Guattari’s understanding of becoming. I show that the concept of imitation accomplishes
this in three ways: 1) imitation is a molar relationship which parallels the molecular process
of becoming, 2) imitation may act as a pathway to becoming, and finally, 3) imitation is an
inherent danger in becoming. In the next step, I use this examination of the two concepts
to flesh out Deleuze’s notion of stupidity, demonstrating why it also plays a positive role in
generating thought, acting both as the “greatest weakness of thought”, and as the “source
of its highest power” (Difference and Repetition, p. 275).

AB  - Many social sciences, including psychology, have seen an affective turn in recent decades.
Current discussions in the philosophy of emotions center on the question of how emotions affect
the transformation of individual and collective agencies. This paper aims to elucidate the
process by which shared emotions among social actors consolidate into new plural community
during societal crises, which destabilize current social norms and create potential for social
transformation.
By adding the social engagement studies to a phenomenological approach to collective
emotions, we theorize the mechanisms through which emotions first become shared through
social engagement, a process in which collective attention to the norms of social action
emerges through interaction, resulting in attempts to modify or reinforce them. According to
Thomas Teo’s view of subjectivity as a psychological concept, the first-person standpoint (Iperspective), move-point (changing positions or establishing new ones), do-point (actualization
and appearance), and end-point (the vision of how the community ought to be changed) will be
considered as constituents of emerging plural subjectivity. Shared emotions—encompassing a
variety of distinct, yet integrated, and reciprocal singular perspectives of social actors in shared
circumstances—serve as the foundation for bottom-up community creation.
The trigger of these processes—a rupture in the current state of affairs—creates disturbance
and opens space to possible transformation of social norms. We argue that shared emotions
could lead to agency transformation, whereby the individual and collective sense that nothing
can be done transforms into I/we can do something. By acting together, present social actors
could actualize themselves as community, which serves as basis for social change.
Conclusively, we claim that by focusing on the interplay between social engagement and shared
emotions we can better understand the mechanism of social movements development and their
potential to initiate social change.

Takvo zalaganje, međutim, niukoliko ne treba shvatiti kao odustajanje od nastojanja da se složena konstrukcija (razumevanja) obrazovanja izloži u svoj njenoj diskurzivnoj, istorijskoj i društvenoj polivalentnosti, već kao obnovljen poziv na njeno promišljanje. AB  - This paper aims to provide an overview of the main landmarks and basic problems
of humanitarianism, which is seen as a philosophy - an ethical response to suffering -
but also as a practice in the form of humanitarian actions. There is general agreement
that suffering ought to be alleviated, but not that humanitarian actions, and the humanitarian
sector in general, are an adequate response. However, the practice of humanitarianism
itself is not clearly demarcated. While for some it only refers to the actions
aimed at eliminating or alleviating immediate suffering, others believe that humanitarianism
requires dealing with the causes of suffering, and in its most extreme form,
that humanitarianism requires force in the form of military intervention to stop suffering.
Therefore, the objections to humanitarianism are contradictory - while on the one
hand, its apolitical stances are respected in the name of timeless and decontextualized
ethics, on the other its politicization is criticised. To condemn or praise humanitarianism,
whether it comes from the point of ethics or politics, the authors conclude, it is
important to always keep in mind what exactly is meant when referring to it.

that suffering ought to be alleviated, but not that humanitarian actions, and the humanitarian
sector in general, are an adequate response. However, the practice of humanitarianism
itself is not clearly demarcated. While for some it only refers to the actions
aimed at eliminating or alleviating immediate suffering, others believe that humanitarianism
requires dealing with the causes of suffering, and in its most extreme form,
that humanitarianism requires force in the form of military intervention to stop suffering.
Therefore, the objections to humanitarianism are contradictory - while on the one
hand, its apolitical stances are respected in the name of timeless and decontextualized
ethics, on the other its politicization is criticised. To condemn or praise humanitarianism,
whether it comes from the point of ethics or politics, the authors conclude, it is
important to always keep in mind what exactly is meant when referring to it.",

AB  - Epikur je smatrao da ćemo, ako znamo šta je dobro i toga se držimo, kao i da ako znamo šta je loše i to izbjegavamo, biti kao bogovi, odnosno da će naši životi biti blaženi. U epikurejskom narativu, blažen nema pretjerane veze sa savremenim i religijsko obojenim tumačenjem tog pojma, već se pod njime podrazumijeva neuznemirenost ili spokojstvo. Prijateljstvo ima vrlo važnu ulogu u dostizanju spokojstva, koja se, ipak, mora tretirati dvojako, kada je riječ o epikurejstvu: s jedne strane podrazumijeva empatiju: saosjećanje i brigu za drugog (prijatelja), a s druge, interes i egoizam. Čini se da ova dva aspekta isključuju jedan drugi, a mi bismo pokušali da ih „pomirimo“.

AB  - Theories travel, and their destinations matter. Instead of dwelling on what happens to them while they journey, the article seeks to understand how theories enter different circumstances, what facilitates or obstructs their mobility and what is the context in which they land. It proposes to consider how Judith Butler’s theories traveled to the East of Europe, more particularly to Serbia and the Balkans. The article proceeds diachronically, from the mid-1980s to today, considering the era of wars and the breakup of Yugoslavia, the transitional 2000s, and the consciously postsocialist 2010s. This trajectory appears on the background of the practices of reading and translating Butler’s works, situating the post-Yugoslavs in the wider context of Eastern Europe. The way we incorporated Butler in our knowledge production about ourselves is presented as a living archive of particular Eastern feminist quests: a search for language, a search for an identity, and lastly, a search for a political position. Ultimately, the text functions as a call for a we – a distinctly “Eastern European feminist we” – and a bid for coalitional thinking through cultural translation and pedagogy of trouble.

Gender Equality for Show: Serbian Performative Europeanization

AB  - The chapter aims to show how gender equality can be used for populist purposes, becoming performative in the constitution of façade democracy. It looks at specifics of the relationship between the Serbian Orthodox Church and the state-led gender equality policymaking in Serbia. Namely, in contrast to the anti-gender mobilization worldwide, most often heartily supported by the relevant religious actors, Serbia witnessed an unexpected silence on the side of the SOC representatives on issues of gender equality. The chapter provides a look back at the years prior to 2017, demonstrating the power and presence of SOC in shaping Serbian conservative politics, to then focus on the recent political developments, revolving around the appointment of the first lesbian Prime Minister. The chapter ultimately shows how the catch-all populism of the current regime succeeds in capturing gender equality from the feminist movement, making the Serbian Orthodox Church, at the same time, the most unlikely ally in the state gender equality for show.
